Love On A Leash is a therapy program that focuses on providing therapy pets and handlers to visit different locations wherever they are invited. These places may include nursing homes, hospitals, schools, private homes, and other places where the animals can give comfort and happiness.
"Love On A Leash is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an avenue for volunteer pet therapy teams to engage in meaningful and productive animal assisted therapy ... As the realization of the positive power of pet therapy started to grow, the organization established a framework and certification process for people to provide pet therapy to others. Love on a Leash was incorporated in 1995 as a 501c3 charitable organization based in San Diego County, California. Over the years, Love on a Leash has expanded beyond Southern California to nearly every state in the USA. As of February 2021, there are about 2,400 Love on a Leash members, volunteering as Love on a Leash therapy teams with their dogs, cats, and/or rabbits. In many communities, volunteers have formed chapters to help coordinate visits and provide support, motivation, and social interaction."
The majority of their therapy pets are dogs; however, they also have many cats and rabbits certified.
