Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) International is a nonprofit that was founded in 1969 as the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association to promote equine-assisted services (EAS) for individuals with special needs. There are centers and locations around the globe who help over 60,000 children and adults with physical, cognitive and emotional challenges find strength through horseback riding. Many smaller therapeutic equestrian centers are registered under PATH International's program including Banbury TEC, which was featured in the first Modern Monday segment.
Their mission statement as stated on their website is: "We lead the advancement of professional equine-assisted services by supporting our members and stakeholders through rigorously developed standards, credentialing and education."
Some of their core values include compassion, inclusion, cooperation, collaboration, education, excellence, innovation, integrity, and accountability; these characteristics are instilled in their teachings throughout the experience the riders have with the horses.
